Solvay House Fire

July 16th at 02:46 hours this morning, Taunton was activated for a possible house fire in the Solvay Fire District. The initial caller reported a “house on fire” but had limited information. Police units arrived and reported heavy smoke showing and stated that the house was “fully involved.” Solvay Car 3 arrived and declared a 99, with heavy fire showing. Taunton Engine 6 (FF. Martin) & Car 1 (Chief Phelan) responded. Engine 6 arrived and deployed a third handline off of Solvay Engine 11 to knock down fire on the second floor. Due to the poor structural integrity, crews were evacuated and operated from the exterior. Upon knocking down the bulk of the fire, Taunton was sent back inside to hit “hot spots” for the crews opening up. The fire was called under control at the 90 minute mark. Taunton Engine 6 & Car 1 operated on scene for approximately two and a half hours before returning to service.
