Taunton Responds To First Due Residential Fire

2/6/23 at 21:37 hours, Taunton and mutual aid departments were dispatched for a reported residential fire on Rockwood Place in the first due. Multiple callers reported seeing smoke and flames from the garage of the residence. Taunton Engine 6 (LT. Taylor) and Car 2 (Chief Amidon) responded at the time of dispatch, and arrived on scene 3 minutes after. Engine 6 reported heavy smoke and fire emitting from the garage and gave a “Signal 99.” Engine 6 made an aggressive interior attack and fire damage was limited to the garage. Taunton Car 1 (Chief Phelan), Car 400 (Safety Officer Sparks), Car 4 (LT. Martin), Rescue 1 (FF. Houle), and Squad 8 (FF. Kastning) also responded. Units operating on scene along with mutual aid from Fairmount, Solvay, Lakeside and Onondaga Hill while Marcellus and Howlett Hill stood by at Station 1. All units cleared the scene at approximately 01:30 hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Onondaga County Fire Investigation Unit (FIU).
